Migraine + roofing = joy

I forgot to mention what was going on at the house behind ours while in migraine hell. A re-roofing project. I don't know why this happens to me, but whenever I'm home sick there is always some kind construction going on the neighborhood. Is this some kind of karmic revenge I'm paying? If so, I apologize to the Nissan I cut off a few days ago, I promise it will never happen again.

Light and sound were my enemy

I have love/hate relationship with this time year. I love what spring brings, warm weather, less rain and the expectation of summer being around the corner. What I hate can be summed up in one word, pollen. This has been my worst spring in terms allergies and today was one of my worst days ever. When my allergies get this bad they usually trigger migraines. When I woke up this morning I was greeted by massive throbbing in my head. Morning light felt like shards of broken glass being dragged across my optic nerve. The sounds of Jessie getting ready for work sounded like nuclear bombs going off. Work was not a option today. The only cure was a dark room with a blanket over my head.

Ahh...change

Currently I'm having a battle in my head. On one side are the forces of change that want to see me working out on a daily basis. On the other are the forces of resistance that are perfectly happy to see me sit on my ass. Tomorrow I plan on siding with the forces of change. Wish me luck.

Did you like Shaun of the Dead? Are you fan of British humor and comedy? Do you think that American action films need to be made fun of? Then Hot Fuzz is for you. See it NOW! Jessie loved it too.

Dream of the white ferry

We have finally succumbed to the what many in our country have described as the American Dream. Buying a house. House prices in Seattle are absolutely insane. For example, a 600 foot condo can start at $300,000. Since our first two years in Seattle were spent in a 575 square foot apartment we started looking into what was available out on the Puget Sound islands or on the Olympic Peninsula. We decided on the cool little city of Bremerton. Bremerton is roughly a 55 minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle. Many of you are already saying to yourselves, “An hour commute! Are you guys crazy?! You are going to hate it!” Before you rush to send us emails advising us not to do it, let me tell you, we can buy a 1500 to 2000 square foot house for the same price as a 600 square foot condo in Seattle. Now about that commute, yeah it will be two hours a day on a ferry, but I will take that any day over two hours in traffic on I-5. When you are sitting in traffic, what are doing? Nothing but driving. Not to mention wishing that Honda in front of you would turn their freaking signal off. On the ferry you can read, sleep, use their WiFi to surf the net, write in your blog, watch seals swim, stare of into the beautiful Puget Sound, or a handful of other things. My employer is moving our office within a fifteen minute bike ride from the ferry terminal in downtown Seattle. All the houses we are looking at are within a five to ten minute bike ride to the ferry terminal in Bremerton. That will make my comute car free. Very cool.

Aging sucks

If you have been reading this blog you know that I had knee surgery about a month ago. Yesterday as I was walking down the outside I tweaked my knee. “MotherFu----. Crap that hurt”, I said to myself and the two cats in the yard. The misstep did not feel very serious, but the pain felt like a knife being inserted under my kneecap. After the pain dissipated I did not experience any more pain during the day. When I woke up this morning my knee was a tad swollen and stiff. When I was younger my body would bounce back bounce from things like this. Now it takes twice as long for things to heal. Getting older is drag.

More edge required

Generally I'm not that into reality television. The one exception is Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch. For the life of me I can not figure out why I like this show. I think it boils down to what my friend Terry said, “The show depicts real people taking real risks.” I agree. The show resonates with me because there is a place deep inside me that wants to to be living a life like the Alaskan fisherman in the show; out in the elements and on the edge. Check the show out sometime.

Motion graphics heaven

I saw this video by the band Royksopp today and after watching it my jaw hit the ground. The thought and planning that went into this is really incredible. I could watch this over and over.
